This festival, during Hispanic Heritage Month, will include major events beginning September 15th through October 15th, 2010. This year's primary focus is on education.
We have much to celebrate this year. New Mexico is the first state to enact "The Hispanic Education Act", which only hours after it was signed into law by Governor Richardson, by the efforts of of the Latino/Hispano Education Improvement Task Force, 32 states had already received the information.
New Mexico is committed to becoming the FLAGSHIP state and leader for Hispanic Education, and we are proud to be included in the long list of organizations who have contributed to these efforts.
Events of De Colores are designed to enlighten and educate the community about Latino culture, food, dance, song and art.
Public schools throughout New Mexico receive a book - compiled and written by Dr. Jose Armas - which includes student essays and poster submissions. Public school libraries receive a copy of this book. APS and NM Department of Education throughout New Mexico have partnered with De Colores in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15th through October 15th, 2010.
